I posted on social media letting you all know that I would probably be MIA some. I’ve debated about publicly blogging about what’s going on, but decided I think it will be helpful to me and to you all to know where I am mentally and physically these days.
On October 18, 2018, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Below is my personal story on finding this out.
Leading up to that day, I had found a lump when taking off a sports bra. After waiting a couple weeks, hoping it was just a hormonal issue, I went to my doctor and was sent for a blood test, mammogram and ultrasound. The mammogram came back fine but the ultrasound showed something suspicious and they sent me for a biopsy. After two brutal days of waiting, I went into a small room and was told, “You have breast cancer.” As you can imagine, the tears were shed and so many thoughts went through my head.
After learning this, many doctor’s appointments have been had. I also went through an MRI and genetics testing (which luckily all came back fine). I made the difficult decision through this to do a bilateral mastectomy since I’ve been told there’s something suspicious in my right breast, as well. Originally, they scheduled surgery for December 18th (my birthday), but I knew that would be too difficult for future years for me. After many days of trying to figure out a new date, they have finally come up with the date of December 5th. My nerves are starting to kick in with the date being 2.5 days away, but I know all will be fine in the end.
Thanks in advance for your understanding of this difficult time. I will try to keep you all posted of life and will continue to post Whole30 and healthy living tips/tricks throughout.
